Paul Smith
Born in Nottingham, England in 1946, Paul Smith was the son of a draper of humble beginnings, who started out with just a few
hundred pounds.
He later on opened a boutique in Nottingham in 1970 and the first thing he ever sold was a Union Jack handkerchief. Paul Smith then
started selling designer clothes, as well as garments which he made himself, along with his partner Pauline Denyer, who would also
buy some garments from boutiques in London in order to stock up their shop in Nottingham.
In 1976, Paul Smith showed his first menswear collection in the city of Paris.
Smith is also best known for his signature shirts featured in offbeat colours and patterns. His label is successful worldwide, especially in
Japan where he has more than 100 shops. In 1994, he opened a new line called Women which has become very successful. In Japan, Paul
Smith gets mobbed like a rock star. He is the largest European menswear designer in Japan who has also recently received a knighthood from
her majesty Queen Elizabeth.
Even today, Paul Smith's numerous boutiques tend to sell everything from toys all the way up to Men's ties. It is this esthetic
eccentricity and a mind which is always fine-tuned for marketing fashion in the best way that have turned Paul Smith's label into a ladies and
men's must-have in Fashion.
