Isabel Marant
Born in 1967 in Paris, Isabel Marant studied fashion design at the Studio Bercot school which has taught several
very well-known French fashion designers in the past. Isabel also gained further experience through her mother who
was the German designer Christa Fiedler.
Isabel Marant began her career as an assistant to Bridget Yorke at Yorke and Cole. She also worked with Marc Ascoli, the husband of French
designer Martine Sitbon, Michel Klein, Chloe and Yohji Yamamoto.
Starting from 1988, she decided to start her own collection, and brought out her first collection in 1989 made essentially of jewellery and
accessories. A few years later, she started womenswear and in 1995 she started sending her collections down the runway at the Paris Fashion Week.
She now also specializes in menswear.
In 1997 Isabel was honoured and awarded with the Howard Prize.
Her clothes are known to blend together past and present, with ideas taken from a variety of ethnic inspirations such as African,
Indian and Antillean. Her womenswear is also funky and informal using strange fabrics such as boiled flannel with lycra bases.
Isabel Marant shows her collections at every catwalk season, during Paris Fashion Week.
