Maharishi
Born in the early nineties, Maharishi is known as one of the United Kingdom’s most
influential boutique labels. Maharishi is also known as the originator of the parachute snopants pants that
have been copied by so many designer labels so many times.
If you take a walk down the world’s most fashionable streets on a Saturday
afternoon, such as London’s Sloane Street or LA’s Rodeo Drive, you will most surely find them - the
skinny t-shirts, running shoes and those instantly recognizable beaded and embellished Maharishi snopants.
Madonna supposedly posseses two pairs in every color and Jennifer Aniston is rarely photographed in
anything but her pair of Hardy Blechmans - aka Mr. Maharishi’s Buddhist-orange version. The famed
signature snopants have become a staple for all the style-obsessed people of the world.
Blechman initially decided to set up Maharishi ("maha" meaning great, "rishi" meaning guru) in 1994, and one year
later he developed his legendry micro-fibre snopant, which Arena Homme Plus described in their Millennium round up
as "the most copied pants of the decade". An assortment of drawstrings and toggles, buttons and ruching, enabling
the wearer to be able to adjust the waist-size and the length, sets Maharishis apart from your basic cargo pants.
The most elaborate versions come decorated with spectacular beading and embroidery right up the leg. Blechman has
also embraced fashion’s new feminine moods by adding some utilitarian fifties style New Look skirts, strapless
dresses and sheer cardigans, to sit alongside some of Spring’s must-have skinny camouflage and dragon snopants –
all of which are set to be the new urban style essentials!
