Guccio Gucci
The Gucci label began in the year of 1921, when Guccio Gucci decided to open a small
luggage and saddlery company in Florence, Italy, which sold exclusive leather goods created and produced by
the best Florentine craftsmen.
Within a few years time, the Florence shop gained some prestige and began to attract an increasingly and very
sophisticated international clientele. This overwhelming success gave way to the opening of a new shop on Via
Condotti in Rome in 1937.
Gucci's first iconic product was the bamboo handle handbag which was introduced in 1947.
Following that, the moccasin with the metal bit was introduced in the fifties and became an extra iconic
product.
Guccio Gucci died in 1953 during a period of growth and expansion with the opening of his very own New
York shop starting from which the name Gucci built its worldwide renown.
Gucci was then worn by such celebrities as Grace Kelly, Peter Sellers, Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy who
carried the Gucci shoulder bag, today known as the "Jackie O".
Gucci adopted the legendary GG logo at the end of the sixties.
