Salvatore Ferragamo
Salvatore Ferragamo was born in Naples, Italy, in 1898. He is known to have designed the most
beautiful shoewear the world has ever seen. His children have therefore created one of the world's most
luxurious labels, marketing clothing, accessories and shoes.
The Ferragamo house is a family company. The mother of the family Wanda tends to keep an overall eye on everything.
The three sons of Salvatore all take care of different activities. Massimo, the youngest looks after the United
States from New York. Leonardo Ferragamo, from the Italian headquarters, has moved the overall concern also into
fashion design, and supplies exquisite garments world-wide. Ferragamo is also known for printed scarves, soft
cashmere shawls and elegant jewellery. They are today a million dollar concern.
Salvatore had 3 daughters, Fulvia, Giovanna and Fiamma. Giovanna Gentile Ferragamo, looks after the couture section
of the haute couture house.
The business has recently extended itself to the third generation now through Salvatore's grand-daughter Vivia
(daughter of Ferrucio Ferragamo, the CEO of Ferragamo, Italy) who set up her own London-based label in
September 2002 specialized in womenswear. She presented her first catwalk show during the London Fashion Week
of February 2003 with a very
feminine style. Vivia had spent 3 years beforehand learning about design at Emanuel Ungaro house helped her to
attain her goals.
Marc Audibet joined the Ferragamo Italy design team for the company in the year 2000. He left after presenting
collections for 4 seasons. Nicole Fischelis, former fashion director of Saks Fifth Avenue store in New York is also
known to be part of the design team. In April 2002, Scottish designer Graeme Black joined Ferragamo as the chief
designer of the house, after having worked for Giorgio Armani.
