Evisu
Evisu is the name attributed to a company which began in 1991, in Osaka, Japan by fashion designer Hidehiko Yamane. The name
was based on the Japanese Buddhist god of money (also known as Evis or Ebisu).
As the logo for his new company, Hidehiko Yamane chose the motif of the Seagull, which now appears on the back pocket of all his Jeans, which is
the main emphasis of his fame.
Hidehiko Yamane trained beforehand as a tailor before he started up his company. He had been researching products for several years in the past.
He examined his own collection of vintage Jeans and set out to make some new Jeans by using some very old methods of Japanese handcraft
traditions.
Evisu vintage Jeans have since become a cult object the world over. In the year 2000, Yamane made 100 pairs of Jeans with 22 carat gold
embroidered logos to celebrate the new millenium. He also personally signed every pair of these Jeans which cost an amazing $ 1,200 per pair.
In 2002 Evisu launched a womenswear line called Evisu Donna, designed by British designer Pamela Blundell.
While Evisu Jeans are the most famous of his products, his womenswear garments are also now rising to a very successful status.
Evisu also has a menswear line, fishing range and a golf range, all of which are marketed in Japan. Shoes and handbags are also included in
the Evisu product lines. Evisu has 25 free standing stores in Japan, and is sold in 400 stores in other parts of the world.
