Roberto Cavalli
Born in Florence, Italy in 1944, Roberto Cavalli attended the Florence Art Academy. His career began in 1965 when he was 21
years old by painting t-shirts with a friend from his art school. He then decided to set up a factory that would make it possible
to carry out the printing. Later on, in the early 70's, Roberto Cavalli innovated by painting straight onto the model's skin.
This idea was met with a lot of success and Italian Vogue began to take great notice of Roberto Cavalli.
In 1977 Roberto was invited to judge the Miss Universe contest, and met one of the contestants, Eva, who became his wife and mother of their
3 children. She started by helping with the knitwear garments and now also assists him with all the projects at the Cavalli
factory.
For 20 years now Cavalli has been making extremely refined and sexy garments which have been very successful in Italy and other European
countries. His Spring 2002 collection, shown in Milan, covered a very long catwalk with stripes and roses, mixed up with his usual wild animal
prints, slashed, decomposed and embroidered endlessly.
In 1999 the opening of a store on Madison Avenue, in New York, whipped up some great momentum. All the New York girls started wearing Cavalli
jeans. It girls in all the hot places identified with the high glam sensibility of all of Cavalli's clothes. His clothes were worn by
the stars of TV's hot serial "Sex and the City". Elton John is also known to have been in the store for hours picking out his clothes.
