Blumarine
Fashion designer Anna Molinari's love for the colour blue and her passion for the sea gave
rise to the name for the Blumarine label. Launched in 1977, when Anna Molinari and her husband Gianpaolo
Tarabini Castellani decided to open a knit plant for making collections which would be a bit more personal
than the work she had previously done whilst working in the family business. The challenge was met with
success and in 1980 the first fashion show in Milan, a collection featuring nothing but knits, was an instant
and very popular hit.
The very positive reception of her initial attempts, led to further expansion of the company.
In 1987 a new line was created called Miss Blumarine, as well as lots of different products, from fragrances
and accessories to leather goods and intimate appparel.
The 90's saw a major transformation in terms of Blumarine's image. The first of 26
single-label stores was opened on the exclusive via Della Spiga in Milan, a phenomenon that was destined to
spread throughout the world.
A partnership with Helmut Newton began shortly afterwards resulting in the realization of some
prestigious advertising campaigns. Following Newton, it was then the turn of Ellen Von Unwerth, succeeded by
Peter Lindbergh and then Tim Walker and always with the assistance of top-level models such
as Naomi Campbell, Nadia Auermann, Carré Otis, Carla Bruni and Monica Bellucci.
