Dirk Bikkembergs
Dirk Bikkembergs was born in year 1959 in Bonn, Germany of Flemish parents. At
first, Dirk Bikkembergs wanted to study law because he found that the judges were "so chic", but chose
fashion instead and graduated from the Royal Academy of Anvers in 1980. He rose quickly to fame in 1985 with
an original shoe collection which featured perforated soles and odd lacing. That collection was a big hit and
won him a special award. Dirk Bikkembergs' designs for the British Design Show in 1986 were also very
successful.
Dirk Bikkembergs started his own company in 1989 which has since flourished as the
designer now sells worldwide.
The designer has three main collections: Dirk Bikkembergs, Bikkembergs White and
Bikkembergs Red which was launched in June 2000 in the occasion of the Pitti Uomo Salon in
Florence.
The Style of Dirk Bikkembergs
Dirk Bikkembergs' style is generally very minimal, timeless with a slight
military tendency. Dirk Bikkembergs loves simple forms and robust material. He also uses lots of leather and
belts in both his womens and mens collections, which were actually identical at first (except for the
sizing).
