Antik Batik
French design team Christophe Sauvat and Gabriella Cortese are behind the amazing
success of fashion designer label Antik Batik. After having travelled the world’s five continents, the
two designers were so inspired that, in 1992, they created their own label of elegantly free-spirited
clothing pieces. Their exotic line, which mixed together the vivid colours and lavish embellishments of
Africa, India and the American Southwest, amongst others, was a very big success.
In 1999, Christophe Sauvat and Gabriella Cortese finally opened their first Paris boutique.
Other shops soon followed afterwards, from Cannes and Saint-Tropez to Tokyo. Folkloric and ethnic notes are
woven throughout their collections with colors and prints piled on to create kaleidoscopic effects. Intricate
embroideries that have a hand-finished look give pieces their unique vibe; and key detailing such as flowered
appliqués and ethnic-inspired motifs lend a certain boho-‘60s eclecticism to their style.
Antik Batik are well known for their exotic chiffon kaftans, signature embroidered kurta tops, graphic print jersey
dresses, and sparkling sequined belts.
