Adidas
The brand name Adidas finds its origin in the thirties small German village named
Herzogenaurach, 12 miles northwest of Nurenberg. Its founder, Adolf "Adi" Dassler created Adidas after
realizing the need there was for some good performance athletic shoes. Adidas began as a small company,
producing soccer and running shoes and then gained momentum throughout the years. Most people attribute
Adidas's success to its impeccable quality, styling and reputation, being the largest supplier of athletic
shoes in Europe today. In 1994 alone, adidas' sales totaled an average of 3 billion dollars.
The Dassler family has a rich heritage in shoes. Adi's brother, Rudolf went on to create the puma brand in
1948 following a dispute with Adi. And, another Adi Dassler, who just happens to be the grandson of
the founder of adidas, decided to launch his own shoe company, A. D. One. which specializes in adventure and
sub-urban footware. Adidas is always known to be on the true cutting edge and therefore launched their own
website in 1996. The site continues to grow, yet maintains its simplistic and dazzling form, just as the
brand with the three stripes that is known the world over.
The Adidas Logo
For years the only symbol associated with adidas was the trefoil (flower) logo. In 1991 a
new adidas logo was introduced. This logo went on to become the performance logo featured on
most adidas products today. The performance logo was actually a part of the logo which was used for
adidas' higher line of product's called adidas equipment. The equipment line began in 1991 with a trio of
soccer shoes.
